During my time as a legal assistant, we had a case where our client won the action and I escorted the SAPS to remove a 4-year old girl from her grandmother's care.  She had no bond with any other adult and the trauma this abrupt relocation caused her was apparent.  Even the police officers were fighting back the tears.

 

The client and the firm had won a decisive victory in the "legal" sense, but it was a terrible day for the little girl, the grandmother, and everybody involved.  As far as I was concerned I would never work in family law again.  Years later I found out about mediation and realized that I could make a difference, even if just for a single family.
